好調パナソニック、テスラ
パナソニックは2018年2月5日、2018年3月期（2017年度）第3四半期の決算を発表。事業部門だけを見た場合、全部門で増益を実現し上方修正を行うなど、好調な結果を示した。●全事業部門で増収増益を達成
パナソニックの2017年度 第3四半期決算（2017年4～12月累計）は、売上高が前年度比9％増の5兆9122億円、営業利益が同15％増の3167億円、税引前利益が同13％増の3135億円、当期純利益が同1％増の2001億円という結果となり、増収増益を実現した。
セグメント別では、第3四半期単独では全カンパニーで増収増益を実現した。売上高は自動車分野や産業分野がけん引して成長し、営業利益も産業分野が堅調に推移したことなどが要因となっている。車載分野では、インフォテインメント領域が好調である他、フィコサを連結子会社化した効果が出ている。パナソニック 執行役員でCFOである梅田博和氏は「事業部門の収益性は着実に強くなっている」と手応えについて語る。
●テスラ「モデル3」生産遅れで売上高900億円のマイナス
これらの好調の中でほぼ唯一の大きな誤算となったのが、米国Tesla Motors（テスラ）の5人乗りの普及型電気自動車（EV）「モデル3」の生産の遅れである。これにより搭載予定だった車載用電池ビジネスが大きなマイナス影響を受けた。パナソニックは、米国ネバダ州において、2017年1月にリチウムイオン蓄電池生産工場「ギガファクトリー」をテスラと共同で立ち上げ、蓄電池の生産を開始。しかし、このテスラ側の「モデル3」の自動化と歩留まり向上が遅れ、大幅な生産遅れが発生した。
梅田氏は「当初は2017年7月ごろから量産を開始し同年8～9月には量産を本格化。2017年末には週間5000台の生産台数を目指すという計画で、それに沿って車載用電池の生産も進めてきていた。しかし、現実的には2018年3月にようやく週間2500台の生産台数になるという状況だ」と生産遅れの状況について述べている。
これにより2次電池事業の業績見通しは、2017年10月末時点から売上高で450億円、営業損益で120億円の下方修正を行っている。「実際には、修正額の2倍の影響を受けており、売上高で900億円、営業損益で240億円のマイナス影響を受けた」と梅田氏は影響度について説明する。
テスラ「モデル3」の生産遅れの状況は2017年10月の第2四半期決算時にも既に見えていたが「テスラ側の生産遅れがどの程度の状況で落ち着くのか見えず、全体の影響を示すことができなかった。今回状況が明らかになってきたことで影響度を公表できた」と梅田氏は述べている。
●2次電池事業は好調持続
ただ、下方修正はしたものの、2次電池事業そのものが大きく苦戦しているわけではない。梅田氏は「2次電池事業は見込みよりも大きく下がっただけで、増収には寄与している。オートモーティブセグメントはもちろんだが、2次電池事業内でも『モデル3』の遅れ以外の事業は順調に推移している」と強調する。
テスラ向けで「モデルX」や「モデルS」用に出荷している円筒形電池についても「堅調に推移しており、利益についても安定して出ている」（梅田氏）とする他、新たにトヨタ自動車との提携を発表した（※）角型車載電池についても今後、生産能力を拡充することで販売を拡大していく方針である。

車載用角型電池については2017年4月に中国大連市で車載用電池セルの新たな生産拠点完成を発表。2017年度中に本格的に生産を開始する計画となっている。さらに2017年9月には、パナソニック液晶ディスプレイ姫路工場で車載用リチウムイオン電池を新たに2019年度から生産すると発表しており国内外での増産を進めている。梅田氏は「車載用角型電池はこれから本格的に立ち上がっていく。国内や中国の新工場が本格的に稼働する2019年以降、増収に寄与していく」と見通しについて述べている。
